Taper: Relief area between slug and cutter to reduce HP and improve slug ejection Description: Hougen 12002 Rotabroach Magnetic Drill Cutter Kit 12,000 Series 2-Inch D.O.C. is for use on Hougen Portable Magnetic Drills and materials up to 350 BHN. Made of hardened, high speed tool steel and precision ground, cutters feature a 3/4-inch diameter shank. Modified end tooth geometry for stacked plate drilling is available. Our exclusive and patented end-tooth geometry - the Hougen-Edge, is one of the reasons Rotabroach Cutters require less thrust and improve finish and tool life. The alternating tooth angles equalize forces to keep the cutter path straight, even thru the deepest holes. Rotabroach Cutters drill a burr-free hole by cutting around the hole and ejecting the center as a usable slug. Rotabroach Cutters require far less horsepower than twist drills of comparable size when run at the same feed rate. As a result, cutters can be run at higher feeds with higher metal removal rates while horsepower requirements are not increased. The geometry of Rotabroach Cutters is such that far less material is converted into chips than when using twist drills. Far less thrust is required by Rotabroach Cutters because they do not have a dead-center area like the chisel edge region of twist drills. Thrust required is 50 percent of smaller diameter twist drills and 10 percent or less for larger diameters. More cutting edges at work during each revolution smoothes out finishes and reduces chip loads per tooth as compared to twist drills. From three to 12 teeth per cutter, depending upon diameter, helps tools last longer, even at higher feed rates. "12,000-Series" Annular Cutters are resharpenable using the 10950 Sharpening Machine.
