HOWARD HUGHES SIGNED LETTER & DRAWING + NADINE HENLEY SIGNED LETTER 1959 BILL HOWARD HUGHES SIGNED LETTER & DRAWING + NADINE HENLEY SIGNED LETTER 1959 BILL At center is a letter sent to Nadine Henley enclosing a bill for an unpaid portion of legal services covered by Irving trust dated 1959. In pencil Howard Hughes OK's and acknowledges receipt by signing the upper right in a rare variant of his autograph "H Hughes" on the reverse there of a paper Hughes draws or doodles a couple unknown objects and does a bit of math. Also included is the letter returned to Irving a short term after enclosing Hughes check for the unpaid balance signed by nadines assistant as well as an earlier letter enclosing Hughes check for the previous balance signed by Nadine Henley, the letter alerting Irving of the unpaid balance and a duplicate letter to the signed one with an earlier date that went unanswered. Nadine Henley was Hughes long time personal assistant and good friend. She was one of the first woman to trade on the floor of the NY stock exchange before going to work for Hughes in the early 30's. It was well known that she was intrusted with an early copy of Hughes will and possibly a later one. In the 60's Hughes gave here an important position in his holding company Summa and by Hughes death Nadine was a powerful executive of Summa. But upon Hughes death she claimed the will could not be located and the search insude. It's been speculated that the will wasn't produced because it could have put Summa in jeopardy, as Noah Dietrich pointed out at the time he was aware of the will and it would have been very generous to him and Summa had not been formed at the time but would have put him in charge of all Hughes affairs in general. Noah, Hughes good friend and as Hughes put it his man in charge left Hughes in 1957 after a bitter argument never to return and the will could have given Noah the power to take over Summa and possibly dissolve it and for that reason it could never be found and most likely destroyed. document and all the material listed here originated from the Irving trust collection. A large collection of documents and thousands of papers that documented and chronicled the 10 year relationship between Hughes and Irving trust through out the 50's in Hughes efforts to finance his empire through the funding by Irving trust. After Hughes death in 1976 and Prior to 1988 Irving trust at 1 wall st. NYC carefully catalogued the thousands of correspondence, telegrams, memos, personal articles and any dealings in there 10 year history, along with loans it had taken over from Mellon bank with an IT number unique to every piece making it easy to identify any piece coming from this collection by the IT # in its lower right. The bulk of witch now resides intact in a private collection. but in 1988 in the confusion that followed the hostile take over of Irving trust by the bank of NY the collection was left behind when Irving vacated the building. and subsequently thrown out with all the other trash when bank NY took over. But it was miraculously saved by a sanitation worker who spotted stock certificates in the boxes and grabbed the boxes. Please see all images, and any questions are welcome.
