Up for auction is a operating system disc for the HP4145 SPA - just the disc not the analyzer. The disc was made on a Shugart SA400L 40 track single density, single sided drive that was acquired "new-old-stock" in a sealed factory box . The SA400L is now installed on a Windows 98 machine and it has been used only to read/write HP4145A boot discs. The reference boot floppy is an original HP 04145-85100 Rev. A5 boot floppy that was read on the Shugart SA400L disk drive. While the Shugart 400L is not identical to the 5.25" floppy drive in the HP4145A (a Canon MDD6106) the Shugart drive has the same hardware specifications (40 Tracks, 300RPM, Single Density, Single sided). By using a similar late 1970's single density, single sided drive with the same specifications as the HP4145A floppy drive, single density media written by the drive are more likely to be compatible with the HP4145A than if written on a later 5.25" high density floppy drive. All floppies are bulk erased using a bulk demagnetizer to remove any pre-formatted DOS tracks. Every HP4145A boot disc burned on this SA400L drive has booted in a convenient HP4145A and the analyzer allowed program, sequence and data files to be written to the disc. One of the discs was also tried in a different, and less convenient, HP4145A and it booted successfully. This disc is guaranteed to work in your functioning HP4145A.
