Many E8285A's out there were sold to only cover the cellular bands above about 800MHz. Some versions of E8285A however covered 400kHz to 1GHz & 1.7GHz to 2.0GHz. This sale is for a replacement downconverter and 2x PCMCIA cards which contain the new firmware to convert an E8285A to full coverage with SSB receive and AM receive / transmit. This effectively turns the unit into a comprehensive communication test set covering 400kHz to 1GHz & 1.7GHz to 2.0GHz. Once the firmware is installed, it enables the E8285's to: operate below 800MHz - once flashed, coverage is 400kHz to 1GHz & 1.7GHz to 2.0GHz demodulate SSB signals demodulate AM signals modulate AM signals The screen shots show the new feature highlighted in RED. Applying this firmware to a E8285A will remove the frequency limitations and calibration below 800MHz and changing the downconverter will get it close to manufacturer specification but will not be perfect. It will however be good for allot of analogue transceiver testing and servicing. The typical response will be very similar to the screen shot of an E8285A which is the spectrum analyzer sweep of the internal signal generator RF output connected to RF input - centered at 500MHz with a 1GHz span. Note this option increases frequency range and adds SSB/AM only - it does not add the spectrum analyzer if you don't already have it. Once this firmware is loaded and applied, there is no going back to the original firmware version. If you already have this firmware and are having problems with your downconverter not being calibrated, message me as I can provide a pre-programmed ROM chip to vastly improve your analyzers performance.
