HP / Agilent / Keysight high power, ultra-wide frequency range, precision calibrated 30dB 30W attenuator 8498A Description Up for sale is a tested and verified Hewlett-Packard precision attenuator model 8498A. Keysight Technologies (formerly Agilent and HP) still carries this model for a price of over $1600! Even if you have this unit calibrated for the certificate you’re still off much cheaper. Specifications This power attenuator is specified for an ultra-wide frequency range of DC to 18 GHz. The maximum average power is 30 W and either port can handle this power. Peak power is even 500 W. The ports are N-connectors (male and female) with an impedance of 50 ohms. The attenuator by itself is very accurate already and with no special connectors (normal N-type), which makes it useful in various applications. Its primary intended use is with the HP 8481B power sensor. The sensor element in the 8481B and 8481A are the same, so it’s also useful if you want to extend the power range of your 8481A power sensor when you don’t have an 8481B available. Only difference is that the 8481A doesn’t tell your power meter to add 30dB to the displayed result. Functionality The attenuation was verified at various frequencies over the entire range using an HP 8481A power sensor. As you can see in the table below the variation of the attenuation over frequency is well within specification.
