Up for auction is a lab built 3 pin power probe power connector and 1 meter cable for HP/Agilent Network Analyzers. This connector on the front of most HP VNA's provides +15/-12.6v at 100 mA for probes like the HP85024A Hi Impedance Probe. This is a non-standard connector and HP lists a part number in the 85024A service manual (5040-0466) for the connector body. Though they exist, they quote over $100 and never have them in stock. I wanted to build a few network analyzer accessories like specialized Hi-Z input probes and a scope probe adapter for LF work but it was difficult without this connector. What I did was to design something compatible, source some pins, etc and built some up some cable assemblies. The main part is a lab built 3 pin connector housing, some gold contact pins, 3 conductor cable and heat shrink that provides stain relief. I was thinking that others might find them useful. I've made about a dozen and can make more if there is interest. This auction is for one item to see if there is any interest. How they're made- The first operation is 3D printing but due to the small size and precision, they have to be touched up and reamed on a lathe and then carefully assembled. They are rugged, functional and well built but aren't especially pretty- heat shrink, etc. I've been using them for the past year and they work fine. I've given a few away to friends and have gotten positive feedback too. They do have a bit of labor in them unfortunately- it would be a lot easier to buy them from Digi-Key or HP at a reasonable price. I build them up into cable assemblies in batches. Our shop built VNA adapters use this cable to get VNA power. This raw power goes to a perfboard (usually) in a Pomona Box that has a couple of 3 Terminal Regulators to give +-5V and then our buffer circuits, laid down manhattan style, etc. Getting power from the VNA port makes these things cleaner to use. If you're reading this, you probably know what I'm talking about. Ask any questions that you'd like. I look at this as more of a service than anything. I've offered other lab built accessories like this in the past for similar reasons. Look at the pictures and feel free to ask questions.
