A Leap Forward in Slit Lamp Engineering Breakthrough Color Temperature iBEX’s 4570K color temperature LED delivers a high-contrast homogeneous white light that delivers substantial gains in slit lamp observation that were once difficult, if not impossible to carry out with conventional illumination: tissue fluorescence, tissue differentiation, increased depth of field and shadow reduction – the latter is especially useful during indirect illumination. It’s a leap beyond conventional tungsten and halogen illumination. Not familiar with color temperature? Color temperature describes the color characteristics of light, usually either warm (yellowish), daylight (white) or cool (bluish), and measuring it in degrees of Kelvin (°K). During the past ten years the 4500K range color temperature has evolved and is the color temperature of choice in today’s modern operating microscopes and surgical suites. The reason: it creates superb contrast and makes it easy for surgeons to differentiate tissue while producing little to no heat output to the patient. It’s no coincidence that we now apply this breakthrough to eye care. Advanced Optical System An advanced converging optical system integrates wide-field eye pieces, prisms, lenses and light enhancing coatings to create pure light transmission and stunning clarity.plus a field of view second to none. It’s ideal for shared multi-physician settings, insuring that all users can embrace and enjoy modern slit lamp technology. 20mm Wide Field of View…Second to None The exceptional 20mm field is useful when scanning within the anterior chamber, analyzing contact lens fit and for expanded views of the fundus.   With or Without Eyeglasses Telescoping eye cups at the front of the oculars provide 18mm of eye relief. This enables users with or without eye glasses to view the maximum field of view. How it works: users wearing eye glasses push the cups in while users without eye glasses extend the cups outward. Both maximize the optical system and view the full image.   Superb Light Efficiency One of the most significant advances in lens design during recent years is the improvement in lens coating technology. Today’s lens coatings have the ability to greatly enhance the way the optics reflect and transmit light. iBEX lenses embrace these new advances. Coupled with meticulous testing and painstaking fine tuning of coatings, layer thicknesses and refractive indices, light loss is reduced to a minimum while brightness is increased 20% to 60% within the visible spectral range as compared to bare illumination. This provides robust, homogeneous luminance and virtually faultless, sharp viewing free of chromatic aberration. Fine-Tuned Spectrum The output illumination provides a light spectrum that optimizes irradiance within specific 460-470nm and 570-580nm wavelengths. This spectrum and the distinct response peaks provide enhanced viewing of the anterior chamber, clarity in the posterior chamber, and the added versatility of improved fundus observation.   Range of Low Intensity Illumination Knowing that a large portion of the slit lamp examination is carried out with low intensity illumination, we’ve expanded the rheostat’s range of low intensity control by 40%. This provides a very useful range of low intensity illumination and precise control during anterior segment observation. Rest assured, although we extended the rheostat’s range of low intensity illumination control, having the industry’s brightest illumination leaves an abundance of high intensity illumination at your fingertips — when you want it and when you need it. Electronics: Behind the Scenes iBEX’s engineering team developed sophisticated electronics especially for the iBEX LED slit lamps. The electronics ensure that the LED delivers constant and direct illumination, free of the fluctuations common to conventional illumination systems. From the bandgaps within the semiconductor diodes (LEDs) to maintaining an amazing less than 3% color variance when moving from minimum to maximum intensity, you can rest assured that the iBEX slit lamp is working to optimize your slit lamp exams.     Extraordinary LED Illumination The single element LED is an evolution in slit lamp engineering. With high-contrast color temperature, exceptional color rendering and an impressive illumination range of 24,420 lux to more than 1,000,000 lux, the iBEX LED is exceptional during direct, indirect and diffuse illumination. With excellent ventilation and the latest heat managing materials, the iBEX LED will operate with consistency for 10,000-20,000 hours, and virtually eliminate down time due to spent illumination sources. 80% Temperature Reduction To help improve patient comfort and safety during higher intensity observation, iBEX LED slit lamps minimize beam temperature and radiant energy with 80%-90% less heat to the patient’s eye, as compared to tungsten and halogen illumination.     Fingertip Illumination Control Adjacent to the joystick, and with iBEX’s unique extended rise design, the rheostat is within fingertip reach for all users. Tower Design Versatility iBEX’s tower illumination design provides up to 20 degrees vertical tilt towards the patient to move the slit below horizontal. This helps reduce shadowing during indirect illumination and illuminates the oblique muscle during gonioscopy. Additionally, the tower has a control knob conveniently located at the bottom to enable quick left or right slit decentration (+/- 5 degrees) which narrowly offsets the tower to illuminate the sclera.   Controlled Motion Lubricants With 45 key structural lubrication points on the iBEX LED slit lamp, our engineers chose to partner with one of the most sophisticated lubrication laboratories in the world – Nye LubricantsT, in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Nye’s expertise and specialized lubricants ensure smooth, quiet and controlled motion. Low Energy Consumption The LED converts 80% of electrical power into light, with minimal heat production. It’s very efficient while tungsten (incandescent) and halogen light, in contrast, convert only 20% of the electrical energy to light — the rest is lost to heat.
