High inrush current can affect electrical systems by tripping fuses and circuit breakers unnecessarily. An Inrush Current Limiter (ICL) is a special Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) power thermistor, which has a hot resistance 10 to 100 times lower than its cold resistance. On turn-on, the 1 to 5 ohm typical resistance of the ICL limits the inrush current to a manageable value.
