This auction features a total of 3 illustration printing plates, each with the horizontal lozenge logo used by the International Photoengravers Union 1907-1910: I.P.E.U. The plates depict characters from Richard Brinsley SheridanвЂ™s 1777 play entitled School for Scandal. It's believed these plates were made to illustrate the 1909-1914 Harvard Classics Edition. The plates are elongated rectangles that would have fit the Harvard Classic Edition style and time frame, measuring 4-9/16вЂќ x 7 3/4 вЂќ with image fields 3-5/16вЂќ x 5-15/16вЂќ. The illustrations feature people in 18th century high-status costumes and would be black line resembling woodblock prints. The plates have not been cleaned or polished, but have no chemical stains, bends, or cracks. Please note that all items have been previously owned and were found in charity resale shops. They have been stored in various places, including drawers, shelves, boxes, closets, attics, basements, and storage facilities. Glass, pottery, china, and metals are washed, and some metals are polished, but damages such as chips, cracks, and conditions are listed in the ad to the best of our knowledge. No restorations have been made. Textiles, drapes, ties, scarves, etc., are untouched and not washed or cleaned. Some odors may prevail, and spots, holes, and their conditions are listed as well to the best of our knowledge. No repairs have been made.
