I sold all my SAC-1000 units, but had a few newer ones stashed in my Lab: Here is a SAC-1000B Swept RF Spectrum Surveillance Receiver, made by Interad of Gaithersburg MD for the use by the various "spook" agencies. It purpose was automatic "bug hunting" and was often part of Embassy hardware. It covers 20-1000 MHz, and has a adjustable threshold so that a signal above threshold stops the sweep and allows the frequency to read out in parallel format BCD to a computer logging system. It uses TTL and CMOS type digital parts and regular 8 pin op amps, most parts are socketed, plus a lot of little RF widgets and boxes!  The VHF/UHF range is upconverted by a sweeping oscillator (probably a varactor type for high sweep rates) to a microwave first IF (L,S band?). I was not able to get it operating, but did not spend much time on it. It  is complete and built well, in an EMI shielded steel box, pretty heavy. Anyway you can tinker with it, fix it, modify it or scrap it out for the cool parts in it. It has a method for correcting the LO frequency by mixing to get it to read the receive frequency directly out from the high speed RF frequency counter assembly built into the bottom of the unit. This thing is really something, pretty cool!  Anyway, you will have fun with this if you like RF/microwave stuff!
