This pancake probe is MORE sensitive than end-window probes or side-window probes. This geiger device uses one standard 9-volt battery; the battery is effective for a hundred hours of use. The manufacturer is Technical Associates of Canoga Park CA. All T-A geiger counters, and all their components, are made in USA. This company, a division of U.S. Nuclear Corp., is still in business and gives free consultations at their phone number or their website on weekdays. www.tech-associates.com INTERNAL PANCAKE PROBE! I challenge readers to compare this geiger counter to pancake probes currently offered on Ebay! Most pancakes are sold separately, and they often require separate purchase of the probe's cable. When you look at the pancake ads, most of their prices are HIGHER than the $240.00 being charged for this one. The internal pancake probe has its pancake sensor on the bottom surface, and that sensor is fully 2" diameter, identical size to traditional pancakes, with their sensor mounted at the end of a long handle. This geiger can evaluate uranium rocks with activity up to 50,000 CPM; this includes 99.9% of uranium rocks found in the fields. There are three multiplier-scales, same as in most full-size geiger counters. The analog display meter includes three scales, same as most full-size geigers: CPM, MR/HR, Battery Level. Clicks are heard from a speaker on the right side of the case. Four calibration potentiometers are positioned on the side panel that is closest to the user. Many geiger users claim that the pancake geiger probe is best: "Once you've gone pancake, then you'll never go back." Pancake is most sensitive, but also is fragile with respect to thin air at high altitude in airplanes, or mountainous roads above 8,000 ft. Extras will be enclosed, such as several DVD disks, photos of the uranium rock canyon, published articles about uranium mining, etc. The geiger counter will be a good instrument either for outdoor prospecting, or for indoor use with your uranium rock collection. GEIGER COUNTER WILL BE FULLY CALIBRATED Prior to shipping, I will check and adjust the instrument's calibration. My calibration tools are: (1) Ludlum Model 500 calibrator, (2) Eberline MP-2 pulse generator, (3) Fluke high voltage DC probe, and (4) Sperry high-level DC voltmeter.
