FINALLY, THERE'S AN AFFORDABLE BLADE TENSION GAUGE/METER FOR BAND SAWS. Precision jeweled movement dial indicator just like the more expensive models Compact aluminum housing Dimensions: 3-1/2"width by 4"height Can be used on bench-top band saws due to its compact design The Blade Gage is capable of measuring blade tension on blade widths from 1/8" up to 3" providing that there is at least 4" of clearance in order to attach the Blade Gage to the blade Until now, most blade tension gauges have been out reach for the average wood-worker. So for the past two years, we at Iturra Design have been working on an affordable design. We call it the Blade Gage. It uses a very sensitive dial indicator which reads in the 0.0001" range, instead of the more familiar 0.001" range. Although lower in price, it uses a precision jeweled movement just like the more expensive models on the market and meets all standards for accuracy under the Standard Gage AGD guidelines. This dial indicator is then mated and sealed to a compact housing which is milled from 3/4" thick 6061-T6 aluminum bar stock for protection. Due to the compact size (3-1/2" wide by 4" height), our gauge can be used on smaller bench-top band saws which have at least 4-1/2' of accessible blade length. It features a small thumbscrew which compensates for any wear to the pivot bearing and a dust cap for the upper portion of the dial plunger. The mechanical blade tension gauge measures blade tension by measuring the elongation or stretch of the blade when subjected to tension. All measure this tension in pounds per square inch (psi). They all do this clamping a known length of blade between two points and accurately measuring its length change under tension. This length change is measured by a highly sensitive dial indicator that measures in ten thousandth graduations instead of the usual one thousandth and converted into a psi reading on the gauge dial. Most woodworkers are not familiar with this type of measurement, relying mostly on the blade width markings on their bandsaws built-in tension indicators for guidance Unfortunately, these built-in gauges are far from accurate and can't take into account other factors such as blade thickness, bimetal blades or the blade manufacturers ideal tension recommendations. Their accuracy also declines as the tension spring fatigues over time leading to erroneous readings. These types of problems are not found with the highly sensitive tension gauges we sell. We hope that through the use of these gauges we will help the beginning woodworker as well the professional, set-up his bandsaw to its optimum level of cutting efficiency. We offer combined shipping. If you buy two gauges, the second one shipping is only $1.00 Florida residents are required to pay 7% state sales tax. Please call or text at 904-434-5510 for any questions. For international customers, the shipping is $28.00 and each additional is $5.00.
