This is a Digital Measuring Instrument that is manufactured in the USA by Jamar Technologies, Inc. This unit is in perfect condition and the included wiring and Modular Distance Sensor have NEVER been installed. The head unit, RAC-100, was a manufacturer's refurbished unit and works perfectly. I simply never installed the unit on my vehicle (2008 Dodge Ram). What is it for? Well, I used to be in the Long Haul Fiber Optic field and we measured the highways (in feet) to get total footage for a new fiber optic cabling run (for Sprint, ATT, Level-3, etc). This was MUCH easier than using a measuring wheel. You simply calibrate the unit with your vehicle and as you drive, you are measuring your distance. Even when you back up, it subtracts the footage. There are many uses and capabilities, These units are not cheap. They sold for over $450 plus the wiring and Modular Distance Sensor which added about $180.
