GEIGER COUNTER JOHNSON MODEL GSM-10S WITH SIDE-WINDOW PROBE for detecting gamma, beta or alpha radiation HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This Johnson geiger counter works well, and includes a side-window probe on a BNC cable. This side-window probe is less sensitive than pancake probes or end-window probes, but is more sturdy than other types. This geiger device uses two standard D-cell batteries; the batteries are effective for more than a hundred hours of use. The manufacturer is Wm. B. Johnson Co. of Idaho Falls, ID. All Johnson geiger counters, and all their components, are made in USA. In 2013, I mailed my first geiger pancake probe to Johnson's suppport service, and they repaired and tuned the probe at a reasonable low price. The Johnson company began in New Jersey, then moved to West Virginia, and later moved to Idaho Falls ID. BNC PROBE-SOCKET ALLOWS USE OF WIDE VARIETY OF PROBES THE Victoreen SIDE-PROBE is in perfect operational condition. As is true with all geiger probes made in North America, this probe operates on DC 900 volts. With its BNC probe socket, the instrument is versatile and can use any type of geiger probe made in North America: pancake, end-window, side-window, or scintillator probe. AUDIO SOCKET: ALLOWS FULL AMPLIFICATION OF THE GEIGER TICKING SOUND This is a special mini-socket on the top panel of the geiger counter. Included with the purchase is a five ft cable, to be connected to a powerful audio amplifier system, so that a lecture presentation on uranium or radioactivity can be performed before a large audience. The pancake is most sensitive, but also is fragile with respect to high altitude in airplanes or mountainous roads above 8,000 ft. My calibration tools are: (1) Ludlum Model 500 calibrator, (2) Eberline MP-2 pulse generator, (3) Fluke high voltage DC probe, and (4) Sperry high-level DC voltmeter. The Jurassic todilto limestone (JTL) rocks have an age of approximately 200-146 million years. The northwestern cliffs at Jurassic Canyon are part of the famed Morrison Formation, known both for uranium and also for ancient dinosaur fossils. More dinosaur fossils, and more uranium ore, have been recovered at Morrison Formation rock sites than at any other geological sites in the USA.* Two of my finds were fossilized skulls of juvenile velociraptor dinosaurs; both are enriched in active uranium.
