Lancelot and Squire Combination If you want to do convex shapes and use the grinder in a sweeping or raking motion to, for example, shape the sides of a bowl or carve the haunches of a rocking horse, then a Squire and Lancelot combination is the best. A 14 tooth Lancelot with a 12 tooth Squire is the most aggressive. The smoothest combination is a 22 tooth with the 18 tooth Squire. You can further custom a tandem with either a 22 tooth and 12 tooth or 14 tooth and 18 tooth combination. Frequently Asked Questions Q:Q: What tooth sizes does Lancelot come in and what's the difference between them? A:A: Two sizes. One has 22 teeth for a finer finish, the other has 14 teeth for more aggressive removal but slightly rougher finish. The simple truth is that the chain can’t break because it doesn’t move independently like a chainsaw, which rotates on a bar. Q:Q: Why do I need two blades? Isn’t one good enough? A:A: With two blades you have more teeth, more versatility, more options, faster wood removal and shaping. You get to your final piece much quicker. Most people use two blades for their rough out carving then change down to one blade for detail work. But if your application only has need for one blade, choose either the 22 or 14 tooth Lancelot. Q:What size hole do I need to use two blades A:A: It is strongly recommended that you match center holes with the grinder’s shaft diameter. Check the grinders instruction manual or simply measure the shaft diameter. In most cases the shaft diameters on most 4-1/2", 115mm and 125mm grinders are as follows:- North and South American Angle Grinders: 5/8" Q:Q: Can I mount two Lancelot’s or a Lancelot and Squire A:A: 1) You get a 12mm wide cut with any two blades when cutting straight into or across the wood. 2) You can have anywhere from 28 to 44 teeth removing wood. 3) You will do incredibly fast, controlled wood removal and shaping. 4) All teeth are in contact with the wood when cutting/carving/shaping in a vertical position. Q:Q: I have a 14 and a 22 tooth Lancelot. What’s the best way to fit them? A:A: Place the 14 tooth on first, then fit the 22 tooth directly on top and tighten both blades with the Universal Nut. The advantage is when using them on their face, the 22 tooth is the only blade in contact with the wood doing the work and gives you the nicest, finer finish. Q:Q: What advantage is there in mounting a Lancelot and a Squire? A:A: 1) When you turn the blades at an angle on their face, similar to using a grinding wheel or a sander, the offset chain saw blades will all come in contact with the wood. 2) You can have between 26 to 40 teeth for either rough or fine removal. 3) They are great for removing large amounts of surface material, scalloping or convex shaping. 4) Q:Q: What is the most versatile combination? A:A: Two 14 tooth Lancelot’s.This combo also provides great lateral control in cutting from left to right, right to left and repetitive side to side motions across the top of the wood. Q:Universal Nut and Manufacturer’s Locknut Q: Can I use the locknut that came with my grinder to tighten two blades? A:A: No, you cannot. You can use the manufacturer’s locknut to tighten one blade only. Their locknut has a 22mm shoulder which will not allow it to tighten two blades. You can use the manufacturer’s Q:Universal Nut Q: Is it easy to fit the blades? A:A: Yes. Once you’ve read the safety instructions you should be carving in less than five minutes. All you need to tighten the blades with the Universal Nut is a 13/16"(21mm) spanner, socket or crescent wrench. Q:Q: Do the chains require oil? A:A: No, the only maintenance required is to sharpen the teeth. Because the chain circlet is securely locked in place between two discs and does not move independently like a chainsaw over a bar. The only parts that wear are the teeth. This is fully explained under "Safety - Are The Tools Safe?" Q:Q: What do I use to sharpen the teeth? A:A: A standard 5/32" or 4mm round chain saw file. You can also use a power sharpener. Some users have also said a 1/8" file works well with the 22 tooth Lancelot and 18 tooth Squire. If not, you could resharpen several teeth twice and get a little frustrat Q:Saw Chains Q: Is the chain replaceable? A:A: Yes. We recommend having one or two spare sets on hand. This molded rubber bulb constantly flexes and changes shape, making the sanders soft all the way to the edge. With the choice of four (4) grits from course to extra fine, Guinevere eliminates scratches and allows you to apply the sander's total width against the work piece or to use only the edge in all kinds of complex sanding. The sander actually becomes flat when pressed against a flat surface and round when pressed against a round surface i.e. the sanders conform to the underlying surface. Consequently the sanders should be filled with very little air (the round sander, part number 11341, needs to be pumped slightly harder than the drum sander). Sanding Sleeves Every sanding sleeve is made to specifically fit each inflatable sander. The sanding cloth material is highly flexible and made of the very best quality, sanding not only wood but also metals, plastic, bone and horn. To ensure maximum performance, it is therefore essential that only original Guinevere long-life sanding sleeves are used. On the round sander, the improved and original overlapping design of the sanding sleeves is to ensure longevity and optimum effectiveness in awkward places. As the sanders are both round and soft the tendency for them to be clogged by dust and resin is very small compared, for example, with rotating paper discs. The sharpness of the abrasive lasts a long time, however, we highly recommend using a cleaning stick to considerably extend the working life of each sleeve. Flexible Shaft We strongly recommend sanding with our flexible shaft since you can clearly see your progress whilst the sander smoothly follows the contours of your work piece. The flex shaft's high quality, vibration free design is optimally matched to the mandrels on each sander which makes them the ideal combination. With a maximum reach of 5 1" (1300mm) the flexible shaft, connected to the easily movable Sanding and Polishing Motor will allow you tremendous flexibility and maneuverability in most work positions. The shaft is intended for low-speed use, around 3000rpm, mainly for sanding and polishing. This quality Swedish Flex shaft has 2 encapsulated ball bearings in the hand piece and one in the drive end for continuous work and is extremely flexible due greatly to the double spiral steel cord in the protective tube. The shaft is rated between 3,000 - 10,000 rpm with a key chuck from 1/16" - 3/8" (1.5mm -10 mm). Sanding and Polishing Motor This small and portable, extremely quiet but powerful sanding and polishing motor is optimized for use with our flexible shaft and inflatable sanders. The Y2hp (300 watt) motor is fitted with two chucks that open from 1/16" - 3/8" (1.5mm -10 mm). This means that you can quickly change between different combinations of sanders and grits. You can mount the flex shaft with one sander to one end of the motor chuck with the other sander fitted to the remaining chuck. Both chucks are tapered-connected to the motor shaft guaranteeing smooth, vibration-free running.
