A historically old brass and slate knife switch believed to be from the Edison era of the late 1800`s.  Appears to have been used in a laboratory setting rather than an early electrical installation. The single pole knife has a tapered and spring loaded blade that pops straight up when the handle is touched lightly.  Almost an assisted disconnect feature. The thick slate base measures 5 3/4 in. long x 2 3/4 in. wide x 1 in. thick.  Closed (blade down) it measures 8 in. in total length and is 2 3/4 in. tall.  The switch weighs a hefty 2 pounds as shown.
