This configuration provides greater security within an office environment. The instrument is fixed in place, reducing the potential for mid-stream error due to a "base movement". The 1282-36 model can be used on tables with tilt angles in excess of 15 degrees. Where-as the weighted base models require the purchase an optional clamp kit (#1286-19) to secure the instrument to the table. The 1282-36 Model is configured with a 36 inch / 91 cm arm. The length of the arm determines the measuring range. The size of the drawing or blueprint to be evaluated, as well as the size of the table on which the measurements are performed, determine the area capacity of the arm. However the practical range can be found within a semi circle with a 5 ft. radius for the model 1282-36. For example: Model 1282-36 could cover an area with a length of 9 feet. Its typical ranges include 36x108". If you need more width range, the length range is reduced. The graphic image below will explain this. Each square represents 1 Sq ft / 0.09 sq.m of area coverage. Large display panel: Shows measuring and counting results or X/Y coordinates in any measuring unit desired. Scaling is fully automatic. LED indicators verify the active operating mode. The enclosure can be tilted and rotated for optimal viewing angles. It can also be used for numerical data entry. The instrument cursor: Glides smoothly with very little friction and provides excellent support for the guiding hand. For normal use, virtually all essential digitizer functions can be controlled via the cursor switches. All switches have dual functions and the switchpad includes directional keys for work in spreadsheets. A cursor handle switch can be programmed to control most functions. Any scale ratio can be used; Imperial, Metric or arbitrary. Scale ratios can be determined automatically by measuring a known length or a known area.
