In other words, if you want to install a fan in your older house without having to cut a huge hole in your ceiling, this is the way to go.The narrow profile of this model, which does not include the box (you can order the standard octagon box #33303), allows you to cut a smaller access hole--it just has to be big enough to accommodate the box. Once the hole is cut, just slide the brace in, expand it so it presses up against each joist, set the self-leveling feet on top of your ceiling material, then attach it to the joists.The brace is UL listed for lighting fixtures of up to 150 pounds and fans of up to 70 pounds. It expands to fit joists spans of 16 to 25 inches, and comes with a 1-year warranty.
