Please use "Make Offer" to set your own price Item Details What we have here is Nd2Fe14B . A neodymium hard drive magnet of a few grams can lift a thousand times its own weight. These magnets are cheaper, lighter, and stronger than samarium-cobalt magnets. (SOURCE WIKIPEDIA) These have been removed from end of life vintage hard drives and SCSI drives. They are clean and have a Permalloy backing plate. I left the plate on for shipping purposes so these wont stick to the counters and conveyor systems they are bound to travel across on the way to you. Permalloy is a nickel–iron magnetic alloy, with about 20% iron and 80% nickel content, so the backing plate is corrosion resistant. The magnet is glued and magnetically attracted to the backing plate. The plate has holes so it can be mounted with your favorite fasteners. The magnet is plated in Nickel so it is also corrosion resistant, as long as the plating stays intact. The rare earth beneath the plating is very susceptible to corrosion so it's best to leave the plating intact. Also the backing plates are solid but the rare earth is brittle to its best to leave it attached to the backing plate. They are very attractive and inevitably they will jump to other surfaces and can break if allowed to slam against each other. These magnets are so strong, they are dangerous, just two in your hand and you are talking blood blister city, if your not careful. So these are for adult use only. Please read the consumer product safety warnings at the bottom of my description. They have many practical uses, my personal favorite, stick up and hang an entire yellow legal pad to your refrigerator. If you have any double metal door cabinets to be kept closed? Mount two to a block of wood in the shape of a handle and you have an instant latch / handle. Do you have any magnetic locks on your cabinets? The weak magnet keys supplied barely work. Use one of these with a little loop of wire and you have instant magnetic key that double's as a handle. Wrap one in cloth tape to protect other surfaces and you have made an instant tarp tie down, use to set up tail gate tents, or attach side tarps to those popup style vending tents. They also work great for finding studs in walls. Just wrap in tape and slide it along till it sticks and hangs off a screw / nail and there is your stud. For use in building your own alternator / generator. Once you have some of these you will be able to think of a million ways to use them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is aware of at least 33 cases of children being injured from ingesting magnets. A 20 month-old died, and at least 19 other children from 10 months to 11 years old required surgery to remove ingested magnets. In many cases, magnets had fallen out of larger components of toys. Some children swallowed intact toy components containing magnets. If two or more magnets or magnetic components or a magnet and another metal object (such as a small metal ball) are swallowed separately, they can attract to one another through intestinal walls. This traps the magnets in place and can cause holes (perforations), twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning (sepsis), and death. When multiple magnets are ingested surgery is required to remove the magnets and sometimes sections of the intestines need to be removed. CPSC cautions the public that small magnets found in other non-toy products may present the same hazard. To help prevent serious magnet ingestion injuries: Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect your child may have swallowed a magnet. Look for non-specific abdominal symptoms - abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, etc. Note that objects in x-rays may appear as a single object that could actually be multiple magnetic pieces separated by trapped intestinal walls. Keep small magnets and small pieces containing magnets away from young children who might mistakenly, or intentionally, swallow them. Look out for loose magnetic pieces – regularly inspect toys and children’s play areas for missing or dislodged magnets.
