You will be bidding on a lot of 6 new K&E/Cubic Precision Kit Digital Theodolites. These came from Cubic Precision Inventory. It appears a couple may have been sent out as rentals and one is marked "won't start up". These have been sitting in inventory for quite some time. The cushions in 3 of the cases have started to become soft and partially sticking to 3 of the instruments (need to be cleaned). The KIT Theodolite can be thought of as a telescope with reticle patterns, much the same as cross hairs found in a hunter's rifle scope. The reticle pattern is specially designed to facilitate accurate aiming of the telescope target. The telescope is mounted via an axle, designed exactly perpendicular to the line of sight, or "optical axis" of the telescope. The axle is mounted to an alidade assembly, the main body of the instrument and rotates in a plane that is square to the plane formed by the rotation of the telescope on its axle. The telescope can rotate in both the vertical (zenith) and horizontal (azimuth) direction. This free range allows you to point in any direction, while maintaining the optical center of the telescope in one location. Many optical elements are incorporated into the telescope which permits focusing on both the reticle and target image. without significantly altering the telescope's optical center An incremental optical encoder is attached to both the telescope's axle, and theodolite's alidade. These precision encoders allow the angle of the theodolites, vertical and horizontal position, to be measured. The KIT theodolite is equipped with a dual electronic level compensator, which detects and compensates for any horizontal wobble. The KIT theodolite is equipped with a microprocessor that allows for the calibration of and compensation for , manufacturing tolerances and wear that occur throughout the life of the instrument. I am not familiar with electronic theodolites, and I can only assume 5 are working and 1 is not.
