LUBRICATION PACK FOR CUTAWL SAWS A number of you have asked for a kit of the Cutawl saw oil and grease lubricants. These two containers have about an ounce of oil and grease so you can keep your saw working safely for several years. It only takes a few days of work in grit to destroy a chisel block, so the simple process of lubricating the working surfaces will pay you hundreds of dollars over time. To review: The oil is used on the guide rod and in the oil cup of the swivel head. Oil (1 drop) after 8 to 20 hours of use, depending on how hard your work is and how much abrasive dust it throws on the shafts. Using more than a drop of oil will not help more, and may attract more abrasive dust. If you have an older Cutawl (serial #39816 and lower), you will have an oil cup on the front and back of the motor, also. The older motors should be oiled once a month of normal use. Again, only a drop of oil is needed at each end. If your serial number is after #39816, you have a "sealed for life" motor needing no lubrication. The grease is only needed in two places; in the plunger shaft bearing (visible when you remove the faceplate with the serial number of the saw on it), and in the plunger shaft oiler (visible as a tube sticking out from the side of the swiver head support). To grease the plunger shaft bearing after you remove the faceplate, press a small (pea sized) amount of grease into the bearing and replace the faceplate. DO NOT pack the bearing area with grease. It will only get thrown off the bearing and could overload the motor. The plunger shaft oiler has a small screw at the end with a coin slot in it. Hold the plunger shaft so it does not turn, unscrew the small end screw, press a small amount of GREASE into the screw hole, and replace the screw. The plunger shaft oiler is called an "oiler" but it is actually a "greaser". A small amount of grease is pressed into a wick as you replace the screw. Do not use oil for this lubrication point. I hope this helps you keep your Cutawl investment working for many more years. Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions. I have about 60 Cutawl units in my shop in various states of reconditioning so do have parts as needed for the various Cutawl units produced over the past 70 years. Thanks for taking a few minutes to view my 1staward listing. Feel free to bid with confidence. b
