SUMMARY: This listing is for an 18 AWG 3 conductor cable with tin plated copper conductors insulated with Tefzel (ETFE), a tin plated copper braided sheild and a white Tefzel (ETFE) jacket. USES: This cable is mainly used for internal wiring of aircraft, aircraft controls, aerospace wiring harnesses, and airframe wire. The making of this wire type is governed by a third party specification [this used to be the Navy and is now SAE] This is done to ensure that the manufacturer and the end user are fair, and uniform in the construction and tolerances involved to keep the wire performing at the stated ratings. Airplane manufacturers and airplane repair facilities love this type of wire due to its lower cost inner conductors (opposed to silver plating) and the inner insulation and jacket's resistance to cut through and lack of cold flowing properties. The Tefzel (ETFE) insulation is extremely resistant to solvents, gasoline, oil, grease, water and other normal liquids within an engine bay or it may come in contact with during it's life-cycle in an engine bay, a motorcycle frame or even in a hobby airplane. It is extremely similar to Teflon (PTFE) chemically and physically but lacks some of Teflon's less desireable traits such as cold flow and soft taffy-like texture.
