Method and Apparatus for Measuring Center Spacing This Center Hole Location Gage dates back to the late 1950's.  The plate on the front of the Gage lists US Patent #2,338,582 (11-6-1945) and #2,774,145 (issued 12-18-1956). These were some of the first machinist gages patented during WWII and Korean War.  Since both patent numbers appear on the name plate the item must date after 12-18-1956. The low letter and numerical numbers noted as the serial number on the Gage gives some indication of this gage being early in production. Our research indicates Gage Engineering is no longer in business. The dimensions are 18 1/2" long, 6 1/2" wide, 5 3/4" Tall, weighs 15 lbs. Used and in good condition. A truly rare collectible. This item has been in the family for over 50 years and was a collectable by our father who was a Marine in WWII stationed in the Pacific theater. We have found Bendix Aviation Corp serial or model #16046 on a plate on one of our gages.  Hence, we believe these were utilized by the Navy in the Vietnam war to repair parts to the myriad of airplanes and helicopters needing repair and maintenance. Operation "Ivory Soap" may have still been in existence during the Vietnam War and these Gages could have been part of these floating vessels repairing equipment in theater. A later patent #4,327,493 (5-4-1982) was assigned to the US of America represented by the Secretary of the Navy, Washington, DC. Hence, our belief these were highly regarded as important by the US Navy.
