<<<All reed switches are NOT the same. Anyone with experience in soldering common axial-lead reed switches, knows the frustrations of breaking seals while trying to bend the leads for mounting or opening the fragile seals with excessive heat from the soldering iron. With conventional axial-lead designs, stresses induced by bending may be transmitted to the inner end of the switch leads. Such stresses can adversely affect the hermetic sealing characteristics of the glass body or the gap between the switch contacts causing erratic or poor performance of the reed switch. The rugged surface mount design of these switches not only eliminates these problems but thermal problems due to excessive heat generated in the soldering process as well. These sturdy, Normally Open DYAD dry reed switches are head and shoulders above earlier axial-lead designs in both performance and reliability. Ideally suited for magnetically initiated switching applications they are super for use as interlocks, alarm transducers, model train applications etc. A common use not often thought of for these versatile devices is use as momentary contact switches. Simply press on the normally open switch and it closes. The rugged body,even though glass, is amazingly tough and stands up well to any reasonable pressure. Great for hidden embedded applications. Though thought of as a magnetic device, the switches lend themselves to hundreds of other applications and are simply fun to work with. These switches have sputtered ruthenium contacts and an extraordinary seal strength, achieved by a patented laser sealing of the glass. The sturdy surface mount contact design greatly reduces induced failures due to soldering. In low level or dry switching environments, switches typically provide >1 billion operations.
