READ THE FACTS: Electrolytic power supply caps likely constitute the single worst liability in old/vintage electronics. Even with regular use, electrolytics fail with age, especially capacitiors adjacent to hot power tubes by drying out or leaking electrolyte following internal corrosion. Note: There are two types of leakage; physical and electrical. When an electrolytic catastrophically fails it usually oozes some corrosive goop: physical leakage. Unlike an ideal capacitor, electrolytics slightly conduct when there's voltage across the plates: electrical leakage. As the electrolytic ages, the leakage increases, especially capacitiors adjacent to hot power tubes. The leakage generates heat, which ages the electrolytic and increases leakage, causing more heat, and so forth. With enough leakage, the electrolyte boils, and the steam bursts the safety plug of the container causing physical leakage and signaling the demise of the capacitor. Attempting to reform original electrolytics will not perform as when new. There will be a loss of capacitance, or there may be excessive leakage (the caps become very warm), or both. IMPROVE YOUR TONE You Don't Operate Your Ride On Bald Tires?...... Burnt Motor Oil?...... Or Jump Start The Battery Every Day Do You?...... Changing the power supply-filter caps might be necessary if your guitar/audio amp is more than 10 years old or 5 years old if you play professionally Replace those old Tone Robbing power-filter capacitors that may LOOK good BUT, Are NOT Properly Filtering The Ripple Current & Creating Heat & Stress on the Mains Transformer (good luck trying to find a truly vintage mains transformer to replace the one you've burned up!)
