Have you ever been shocked by a trouble light? Most of us have and it has a tendency to make me throw things, usually a trouble light. Up for sale today is a KH Industries hazardous location, mil spec low voltage spotlight. These are about as shockproof as you can get. They use a transformer and rectifier to reduce the 120v AC to 6v DC. These lights are watertight and ruggedly constructed to military specifications. The 6 volt model was made on a government contract and it is not available commercially. It has a fifty foot long, 16awg SJOOW cord with a easy-grip grounded plug. The cord is MSHA approved. The transformer has mounting tabs for permanent mounting and it is also watertight. It uses a 30 watt, PAR 36, 6v lantern sealed beam bulb. These are readily available for $10 or less. Re-lamping requires only a flat blade screwdriver. A different wattage bulb or a flood type bulb could also be used. This light is very bright at 50,000 candlepower, and really reaches out there. The lens is made of durable Lexan and it is sealed by seating into a large, thick o-ring. The heavy duty push button switch can be operated quickly and with ease. It uses a heavy rubber boot cover to seal it. The switch is easily accessible for replacement if needed. The interior wiring is sheathed for protection. The cord enters the light through a heavy rubber sealing fitting. There is a large rubber hex shaped ring on the lamp end that acts as a cushion or shock absorber and it also seals the lens and holds it in place. The lights are light weight. They are superior to large lantern type lights that are heavy and dim with usage and are much safer than using normal AC lighting on a ground fault protected circuit where the GFI is subject to failure. These are the safest, best made portable DC lights available today. This company makes high quality safety lighting products for the US Military. They are designed to take abuse and continue working and they will stand the test of time. These are surplus lights purchased from the Federal Government. They are not seconds or factory rejects. They are all in their factory packaging and have been stored indoors. They have not been wet, crushed or otherwise damaged. Any plant that has standing water on the floors should use these or similar lights. As the workforce ages, the need of additional lighting for proper vision increases also.
