The operation and controls of this New ASTRO/SABER Vehicular Adapter (AVA) are the same as a ASTRO Digital SABER, SABER, or Systems SABER radio's.  The AVA is designed to operate only with the following radio/battery combinations: SABER or Systems SABER radios with NTN4593 Medium-Capacity NTN4594/7251 High-Capacity, or NTN4595 Ultra-High Capacity batteries; ASTRO Digital SABER radios with NTN4593 Medium-Capacity or NTN7251 High-Capacity batteries.  The use of batteries not made by Motorola is not recommended.  To charge the radio battery, the vehicle's ignition switch must be turned on.  If the ignition switch is turned off, the radio will receive normally, but will not transmit.  However, some installations may not allow any radio operation with the ignition switch turned off. This New adapter works with ASTRO Digital SABER, SABER, and Systems SABER radios manufactured on or after September 1, 1994.  These radios can be identified by their serial numbers: the fifth character (year) must be "U" (1994) or later ("V" [1995], "W" [1996], etc.).  If manufactured in 1994, the sixth character (the month) must be "S" or "T" (September) or later ("U" or "V" [October], etc.).
