Machinable End Morse Taper #2 / Steel version - LeadLoy easy to machine Tailstock Accessories for Tabletop Lathes - Machinable End Morse Taper #2 Compatible with "China import lathes" Typical application: Machine your own tailstock accessories. Included: One piece in steel, Morse #2 taper, max O.D. 3/4", approx. 3" long in total, no tang on MT (see Fig.). Safety booklet. The piece is machined in a lathe. Other sizes can be made up to MT4. Other materials on request. MT is a little shorter than ANSI MT since most China import lathes have reduced length tailstocks. If you need a full length version tap the small diameter end #10-32 or 1/4-20, insert a screw and adjust it's length such that the taper pops out of the tailstock. Check out my other items! Tip: You have a number of options to machine this piece: 1) headstock drilling, place machinable end MT in tailstock and mount Jacobs drill chuck in headstock for machining e.g. a center drill holder; 2) clamp the piece in lathe chuck using the flat end; 3) get a MT3 to MT2 adapter and mount the piece in the headstock. Note: You may want to true the MT2 in your lathe for ultimate TIR. We can also do that for you at no extra costs, but max O.D. will then be reduced. Cutting tools such as center drills can break. The fragments may travel at great speed over large distances. Therefore, use protective closing including, most importantly, safety glasses for metal work. The adapter may start to rotate when the center drill gets stuck in the work piece. In any case, switch the lathe off. Do not try to stop the rotating adapter with your hands. Make sure that the adapter is properly inserted in the Morse arbor – the quill typically needs to be moved out somewhat. Use cutting oil for drilling but not on the taper end.
