Mudge Rail Road Inspector Car Engine

Up for sale is a Mudge Rail Road Inspector Car engine. Often called a Putt Putt engine. I believe that this engine was manufactured somewhere around 1915 give or take a few years. The engine runs although I have not started it in several years.  Since this is a rail car inspection engine it is a two cycle engine that will run in either direction. This is so the car can be reversed on the tracks without having to lift it off of the rails and turn it around. The water hopper is made of cast aluminum. The Mudge operators manual states that water could be left in the hopper and allowed to freeze and no damage would result from this. If you buy the engine you can test this out if you want but I never did. Personally I wouldn't dream of risking damage to such a unusual engine just to test out their claim. I restored this engine a fair number of years ago and the paint is still in very nice shape. This is a very unusual engine and the odds are that you will never see another one available for purchase in the future. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. This is not a Hit and Miss engine. It is a throttle governed two cycle engine. The ignition for this engine uses a buzz coil and battery. These two items are not included with the engine. I have several other engines up for auction at this time. Please click on the "See other items" link to view them. Shipping: I am none too interested in crating up an engine like this and shipping it. I would much rather the buyer picks the engine up or arranges for someone to retrieve it. If you can not do that please contact me prior to the end of the auction to see if we can work something out.
