Offered: 24 point Spartan Bold (Small Caps) w/figures and points included cast by Stephenson Blake /Caslon Letter Foundry, Sheffield England. This was unopened prior to this listing, it was very carefully opened, photographed and carefully rewrapped. As you can see in photographs this type is in pristine condition. If you happen to own this typeface that was cast by Stephenson Blake you may want to add this to your holdings. This offering includes Caps, points and figures it is very useable as offered. This is hard Foundry type cast by Stephenson Blake, a Premiere type Foundry well known for their flawless type casting. Stephenson, Blake and Co. was founded in 1819. In 1937, the famous type foundry H. W. Caslon & Co. was acquired. Stephenson, Blake and Co. stopped founding of type in the late 1990s. Their materials were placed in the Type Museum in London. Spartan Bold as well as its American counterpart Copperplate Gothic family of typefaces were designed to mimic the engraved intaglio printed typeface, however if the same typeface is letterpress printed coupled with thermography or raised printing it can quite easily pass as "engraved printed" or intaglio printing to the untrained eye. This effect could almost be referred to as the "poor mans" engraved printing since it is a lot less costly to produce the raised letter appearance. I am sure that this typeface could possibly be passed over because of the Spartan name. American Type Founders also named a Gothic sans serif typeface family with the same name. This is directly related to the Copperplate type family. If you take a close look you will see the tiny serifs on the letters common among Copperplate type families. This particular typeface shares the same attributes as it was available in six, twelve, eighteen, and twenty-four point. Twenty-four point I believe was the largest size available. Like all type in this family it was available in Capitol letters only. You could use it as a stand alone or combine it with the next size smaller size and have a big cap small cap look that is familiar to us all on professional business cards. That said most of the smaller sizes like six and twelve point were available in four different sizes in their respective point sizes, in this case however the 24 point shown only came in two sizes. This is the smaller of the two sizes that Stephenson Blake cast 24 point typeface in. This is quite useable as offered as it is a complete font of Caps, points and figures. If you would like to have a larger number of letters and numbers to work with I have a total of three fonts available. Sorry I do not have any fonts of the 24 point Large Caps. This font is set on approx. 24 pica length line, approx. 4 inches. Weight of font without packing or shipping box is 3 pounds 7.3 ounces. Font scheme is 6 Cap A, 3 Fig. 1.
