PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS UNIT IS SUPPLIED WITH BOTH UPPER AND LOWER CASE BRASS LETTER STRIPS. When you use the lowercase strip you install the phase converter on top of the two stainless steel pins. This converter is to maintain character spacing and alignment.  The alignment and character spacing on this unit is accurate to     .0008"     This indexable alphabet will work on a New Hermes or Scott font tray. This might work with others but I'm not familiar with other set ups. If you have any questions please ask.  This unit is used to do small jobs like initials or just a few words. It is also used for serial number or other identification numbers or codes where there are several repeating digits.                 Most font sets only give you two or three of each number and if you need more than that you will run out unless you have a fixture like this.  This fixture is capable of engraving 21 characters per line. This includes the spaces. It produces multiple lines of text by you moving your vise. This unit is very easy to use. It comes complete with the mounting hardware to mount to your machine. Please note that this may require drilling two small holes on your set up to attach this unit to your copy area. When I use mine I attach it to my set up using two stainless screws and two brass thumb nuts. It only takes about 15 seconds to mount it or remove it and you do not need to use any tools.                Do you remember the old school name tag makers that used the thin plastic tape?  You would rotate the dial to the appropriate letter and then squeeze the handle and it would  emboss the plastic by stretching it and turning it white.  This unit operates on the same principle only instead of a rotary wheel to make your letter selection it uses linear motion. You simply count the letters in your phrase and center the phrase over the numbers on the jig. You engrave one letter and then advance the alphabet strip to the next letter and then engrave that letter. You continue this process until finished.  This piece is made of solid aluminum and brass and uses stainless steel hardware. This is attached to a piece of wood to protect it during shipping.  Thank you for looking   Eric
