You are bidding on a Square D QO120EPD equipment protection GFI circuit breaker. Brand new in box. (7 available). EPD breakers trip when there is a ground fault just like regular GFCI breakers, EXCEPT that they are designed to trip at a higher leakage current. Ground fault devices intended to protect people must trip at no more than 6mA of leakage current. EPD devices trip at 30mA, too high to protect people. So why would you want an EPD-type breaker? Well, there are situations where normal operation of electrical equipment produces leakage currents greater than 6mA and people are not involved. One good example is ice-melting equipment on roofs, gutters, downspouts, drains, etc. This kind of equipment can easily have leakage currents greater than 6mA, and you don't want the damn thing tripping constantly. But you do want it to trip when the leakage becomes significant. Hence the choice of a 30mA trip level. So the upshot of this long-winded explanation is that this Square D QO120EPD breaker is exactly the right thing for the ice melting circuit on your roof, driveway, or sidewalk. There are other approved uses too. Just don't substitute these for GFI breakers designed to protect people. This breaker is brand new in the original Square D box with the paperwork.
