This is an unused, jacketed (covered) UV-capable fiber-optic cable, with a matched collimator and hardware from Newport. The total new cost is $510.00 + shipping. Newport is top-shelf and diamond trophy brand! IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read the section below called "CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES," especially the paragraph labeled "(4)" which relates to the rules on bidding for this item! --------------------------------------------------------- ATTENTION INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: IF I relist this item, I might accept international bidders. --------------------------------------------------------- Directions to Newport web-site with a Part(s) List: Go to: newport.com Insert these product numbers in the search box: Product No. 78277 = $276.00 1-meter fiber optic cable. Product No. 77644 = $190.00 Collimating Beam Probe for Fiber Bundle, Fused Silica. Product No. 77670 = $44.00 Ferrule Converter, SMA Termination to 11mm Standard (this is the little solid-cylinder that the fiber optic plugs into, and then fits into the inside-diameter of the collimator lens barrel) Also, 1 rubber "O"-ring and 1 metal-friction-ring ------------------------------------------------------ This 1-meter long fiber-optic cable is made of fused silica glass, and; includes a collimator-assembly, with a lens that ALSO PASSES ultraviolet-radiation. The fiber-optic glass is a solid, single-strand that's 1 millimeter in diameter (1000 micrometers). One of the big advantages of this short (1-meter) cable is that there's very little radiation-loss through the cable, which means is usable for low-light output-sources; especially a monochromator. This will also homogenize light from different sources fed into the its input. I've been told that unlike a multi-strand fiber-optic cable, this cable will maintain a polarized input-beam through the cable, and; across the diameter of the output-beam. There are accessories for this item you can order from Newport, so; it's expandable and interchangeable with their system(s). EXTRA BONUS: You'll receive the original and padded shipping container, which is extremely handy for storage of this fragile item! I've pre-assembled part of this item. The collimator lens barrel-assembly is ready to attach to the fiber-optic cable, because I've already put the (solid-cylinder shaped) ferrule on the end of the cable (circular ferrule fits inside of the collimator lens barrel). There's a very small set-screw on the outside of the metal collimator (barrel-shaped) body. This screw sets the distance from the end of the fiber-cable to the back of the lens in the collimator body. This little screw requires a tiny "jewelers screwdriver," and; the screw grips the outside of the ferrule (ferrule sits inside of the cylindrical collimator). I HAVEN'T USED THIS SET-SCREW, BECAUSE IT'S NOT NECESSARY, AND; I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DON'T EITHER! IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY STRIP THE SCREW IN THE TIGHTENED POSITION, YOU'RE IN BIG TROUBLE! --------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Please email me with your application before you bid. (2) That the purchaser has performed all the technical and background research to assure this item will work with their application. TECHNICAL WARNING: You WON'T fill the ENTIRE diameter of the collimator lens by simply placing ANY illumination source at the input of the fiber-optic cable! You MUST have the proper numerical-aperture of the source. A small laser pointer or laser-diode at the input of the cable WITHOUT A MATCHED optical system having the correct numerical aperture WON'T work! You'll simply see a small dot on the end of the output of the collimator!! (3) You understand this is an exremely fragile item. YOU CAN'T BEND THE CABLE ANY LESS THAN ABOUT AN 18-INCH ARC! (3a) I'm willing to honor my return-policy, BUT; what I'm worried about is that if you return it, you may have unknowingly damaged the unit in an undetected way that's neither obvious nor noticeable, as in a microscopic fracture, crack or dent. IF YOU RETURN THIS, I NO LONGER CAN SELL IT AS NEW! (4) An order to assure your system will properly fill this fiber-optic cable input with the correct NUMERICAL-APERTURE from the light source that's feeding this cable, you MAY need, AS IN YOU'LL AGREE TO PURCHASE AND TEST YOUR SYSTEM WITH an adjustable iris on the lens that's feeding the input of the fiber-optic to MATCH THE POWER TRANSFER to the fiber-input by finding the correct numerical-aperture required by the input of the fiber-optic cable for YOUR PARTICULAR APPLICATION. (4a) Below is the web-site to convert the f-stop of a typical iris control to numerical aperture (the refractive-index of air is "1"): calctool.org/CALC/phys/optics/NA_to_f Copy and paste the above link in your address bar, AND; insert the characters BELOW at the BEGINNING, BEFORE the word "calctool," with no spaces or brackets: [h] [t] [t] [p] [:] [/] [/] [w] [w] [w] [.] (4b) Regarding using the formula above, please note how the f-stop of an iris-mechanism OR the numerical aperture of a mounted condenser will change by using immersion oil INSTEAD of air PLACED BETWEEN the input of the fiber-optic cable and the output of the condenser. This means that when insert the refractive index with the formula above, you'll be REPLACING the refractive-index of 1.00 for air, with 1.45 for immersion oil. (4c) UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR SYSTEM IS DEFINITELY COMPATIBLE, AND; BASED ON MY RESEARCH, YOUR EXPERIMENTAL IRIS SYSTEM MUST BE CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING A 0.22 TO 0.50 NUMERICAL APERTURE. Examples are: Thorlabs; fiber optic cable product number M71L01, 1mm fiber, uses BFL48-1000 fiber, 0.48 NA Edmund Optics; fiber optic cable product number 57746, 0.22 NA ----------------------------------------------------------- My mission is to create repeat customers by educating shoppers with outstanding support, application-knowledge, cost-savings on equipment, and; laboratory protocols. Tell me your research goals! If you need an item not listed, email me. Email me to set up a phone conference. My knowledge is in technology transfer, life-sciences imaging, immunology, hematology, and; helpful hints for inventors on patent-protection. I'll also help physicians open their own clinic. My huge library supports my advice. Research Grants: I've got "tips" and "shortcuts" to reduce the costs of equipment and procedures, so you'll allocate more grant-funding for salary and benefits. Let me counsel you about used equipment, warranty law, service contracts, parts-availability, and; charges for calibration, repair or maintenance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Product Documentation and Application: New items will include at least one of the following: directions to view the item on the manufacturer(s) or distributor(s) web-site, the documentation I received with the item, or; my advice on your application for my item. Please verify the item use with me before bidding. Used items were professionally tested for me, not by me, and; weren't used after testing. I often supply the manufacturers documentation for used items. Optical filters include the original and individual transmittance-graph. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shipping: My shipping charges are occasionally much higher, because I use lots of packing on fragile items. If the actual shipping charges are smaller than your payment for shipping, I'll refund the difference! If the charges are a lot bigger to what my add stated, I'll contact you before shipping. Buyer pays UP TO ~$27.55 for Priority Mail shipping for USA. SORRY, NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS THIS TIME. Buyer pays N/A USPS First Class Mail International (air mail) to the United Kingdom, all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and most other international destinations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I only accept PayPal, and; ship to verified addresses. All returns must have a valid technical reason. Please contact me before returning an item. Thanks for looking!
