You are considering a Niagara 42" Mechanical Sheet Metal Shear. This shear is used and is in fair overall condition. The body of the shear has several scratches and considerable paint wear. There is a good bit of surface rust on some of the bare metal areas. We wire brushed a good bit of the rust off, but it still needs some TLC.  Mechanically, the shear seems to operate fine. It has the classic, "click, click" noise associated with older mechanical machines from the "dawg" when running. I'm sure the entire machine could use a good greasing.  The machine trips fine and only double-tripped on me once due to me not removing my foot from the pedal in time.  Electrically it seems to be okay as well. We did notice that ever so often the "on" button would not engage to turn the shear on. This is an old, mechanical type on/off switch. We cleaned it out with a little contact cleaner and it seemed to stop the problem. This shear is being sold AS IS. We have been unable to find a model number or any type of identification tag anywhere on this shear.  We did find what we believe to be the serial number stamped on the upper left side of the table, which is 61172.  Niagara has been out of business for several years and we have not been able to find any other information about this shear.  We do not know what the metal thickness capacity of this machine is either. We tested the shear on a 16" wide piece of 16 GA Mild Steel. It seemed to cut this material fine, but we do not have a full width sheet of anything here to test it with.  The maximum shearing width is 42".  Similar sized shears we've seen online are rated at 16 and up to 14 GA, but again, we do not know the actual capacity of this machine. There is an extra set of shear blades with this machine (see the 9th picture). They have rust on them, but seem to be in otherwise good condition.  The 10th picture shows the front right corner of the table. It looks as though there was some repair work done here for some reason by a previous owner. The adjustable back gauge was rusted "stuck" when we received the shear. We have cleaned up the support bars and the gauge seems to slide okay now, but it could use some more TLC on the adjustment screws. Also, we noticed that the support bars are both bent at the threads where they screw into the back of the machine. It may be possible to heat and straighten the bars, but we do not have the equipment for doing this and did not attempt to do so. Again, this shear is being sold AS IS. The shear is powered by a 1 HP, 1750 RPM Electric Motor. This is a 3 Phase motor and is currently wired for 230V. The motor seemed to run out fine when tested with no excess noise that would indicate bearing problems. SHIPPING: Buyer to pay actual shipping cost, via motor freight, from Muscle Shoals, AL 35661.
