NUMBERING MACHINE. METAL PRINTER'S INSERT. GERMAN MFG'D - ODDITY. LEIBINGER COMPANY TUTTLINGEN, GERMANY Model #18, Gothic Font, 6-Digit Skip One Reverse (i.e. 9,8,7,6,5,4...). Mechanical Numbering Machine Used By Professional Printers To Print Sequential Numbers on Forms, Receipts, Parking Passes, Bingo Tickets, Raffle Tickets, Coupons, Sweepstakes Entries, Repair & Service Tickets, Stock Certificates, Currency, Checks, Invoices, Etc.   Prior to the digital age, books, posters, tickets, forms, newspapers, and other types of printed paper were produced on a printing press. Movable type, wooden printing blocks, metal printing blocks & sequential numbering machines (also known as a letterpress cut or printing dies) were set in a frame (known as a chase) and ink was rolled over the surface of the metal image with a roller (also known as a brayer) before the paper was pressed into the inked surface. This process was known as relief printing which included woodcut, relief etching, linocut, linotype, and metal cut. You are purchasing a German made, commercially manufactured "Numbering Machine" that was used in a professional print shop to print sequential numbers on such items as ticket stubs, invoices, bills of lading, sales receipts, raffle tickets, tags, checks, stock certificates, ballots, old lottery tickets, theater tickets, railroad tickets, trolley tickets, paper currency, soldiers identification papers, Bonds, and many other items requiring a sequential serial number so as to be identified as "unique." THIS LISTING IS FOR: This listing is for one numbering machine, (i.e. you are purchasing a single numbering machine). MANUFACTURER: Leibinger (a German company). MODEL NUMBER: Model 18. FONT: Gothic. SERIAL NUMBER: 7-digits in length. Varies, (this listing is for ONE randomly selected numbering machine from a lot). Each numbering machine has a serial number making each identifiable and unique. MEASUREMENTS: Frame height is approximately 0.81"; Plunger height is approximately 0.99"; Frame width is approximately 1.09"; Frame depth is approximately 0.58". The plunger has a blank face. WEIGHT: 1.5 ounces [43 grams]. NUMBER OF DIGITS: 6 wheel. Digits are approximately 1/8" tall x 1/16" wide. NUMBER OF ZEROS: 4 zeros + two "drop zero." SEQUENCING: Reverse one (9,8,7,6,5...). Resettable. ADDITIONAL INFO: The Leibinger Company has manufactured a wide range of plunger and center-driven numbering machines for over half a century. As the world converts to digital printing, Leibinger's product line now includes industrial small character inkjet printers, high-resolution inkjet systems and camera bar code recognition systems. Leibinger's manufacturing facilities are located in Tuttlingen, Germany. SELLER'S COMMENTS: This numbering machine was acquired as a part of "a lot" of numbering machines from a very large central United States printing company that specialize in printing "tags." It is assumed the numbering machine is functional; HOWEVER, it is being sold AS-IS, as a novelty item only - - - as we can not assure that each and every digit will sequence, that there might not be some unseen or undetected damage, etc. Each numbering machine has undergone extensive usage. And about that 1936 Washington Quarter in the photograph, sorry it's not included with the purchase - it's simply there to serve as a visual size reference. This unusual German numbering machine makes a perfect gift for yourself, your coffee or end table, on your desk at work, on a shelf, or in your collection. It also makes an unusual gift (we bet no one else is going to give this as a gift!). Given the advent of digital printing, the likelihood finding this type of professional numbering machine gets slimmer each day. There is little doubt that when friends see it they'll ask "Where did you find this unusual item? Whatever does it do?" NOTES ABOUT THE NUMBERING MACHINE'S SURFACE: This is a precision mechanical device. Every time a numbering machine passes through the press, the impact and the pressure of the die's impression on the paper ever-so-subtly degrades the surface of the numbers. This numbering machine is believe to have printed hundreds of thousands of sequential numbers - so the digit's surfaces will be slightly degraded. The numbering machine you receive will show signs of wear-and-tear, maybe scratches, certainly some residual ink, etc. For those of you who are not printers, any residual ink can be easily removed by applying a petroleum based degreaser (such as those found around the house) and scrubbing with an old toothbrush. IMAGE CORRECTION / ADJUSTMENT: One of this listing's photographs has been intentionally reversed (and is so indicated in the photograph). That image is a "mirrored image" so that you can see what the image would look like when it was printed. The numbering machine you will receive will of course be reversed from what was printed on the paper. DISCOUNTS: Effective July 2011, eBay started collecting an 11% surcharge on the amount buyers pay for postage. We have never "gouged" our buyers on postage or shipping -and- we have never charged a "handling fee." In fact, we usually "broke even" or lost a little money on shipping. Under eBay's current rules, if a seller's actual postage cost is $2.50, eBay now "dings" the seller .28? (11%) "postage surcharge" resulting in another loss. Effective June 1, 2012, eBay terminated many seller's 20% "final value credit" because sellers were unable to meet eBay's shipping criteria of shipping within 24 hours (orders placed on Saturday afternoon couldn't possibly be shipped until at least Monday, etc.). Sellers counted on this small "refund" which added to the bottom line. As we could only guarantee 24-hour shipping 6-days a week, we lost this credit too. Inasmuch, WE DO NOT feel it's fair to pass eBay's surcharges along to our buyers - so we have simply removed the various discounts we previously offered our buyers. We sincerely apologize for this - - - however eBay left us with two choices: Pass along their surcharges or remove our discounts. We chose the latter. WARRANTY and/or RETURNS: This numbering machine is subject to individual interpretation. We have made every effort to list the information and condition as accurately and honestly as possible -and- included sharp photographic images (to assist the buyer in making a determination). Thus, there are no warranties or returns on this item. HOW FAST THEY'RE GOING TO GET TO YOU: As soon as PayPal notifies us that your payment has been posted, your numbering machine will be packaged, labeled, and readied for shipping. Shipping is usually the same day or next day. We don't like to wait on our items to be mailed - we're guessing you don't either. Don't have a PayPal account? Feel free to contact us to see if other arrangements can be made (we're actually pretty easy to get along with). INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Many of our numbering machines have already shipped to foreign destination (where printing supplies can be very difficult to purchase). Inasmuch, this item WILL SHIP INTERNATIONALLY. We will complete the United States customs forms required to ship this item to your country - you are responsible for any import costs, taxes, duties, tariffs, or fees associated with the receiving country (i.e. your country). The United States Custom's form requires you include a telephone number in your country where you can be reached if you are shipping this item to a post office box. Please be certain your country is one of the countries we ship to by using the pull down menu. If your country isn't listed, you will need to contact us to see if we can make arrangements (we intentionally block countries with high rates of fraudulent buying - - - but will consider shipping anywhere based upon your purchase history and eBay rating). International shipping requires you pay with Pay-Pal. The United States Customs Form will indicate the contents as being "Printing Materials." SHIPPING and HANDLING COST: There is no excessive "padding" with this item's S & H. It ships United States First Class Mail to your United States address. It ships United States First Class International Mail to your foreign address. Foreign addresses will incur an additional $1.00 processing charge for completing the required United States customs forms required to ship this item internationally.
