Alignment When placing the eartips in your ears, hold the headset in front of you with the eartubes pointing slightly away (Figure A below). Once the eartips are in your ears, they should point slightly forward (Figure B below). If the fit still isn’t comfortable, and/or acoustic performance is lacking, grasp each of the eartubes and twist to adjust the headset for a custom fit. Wearing the headset improperly (Figure C below) can result in a poor ear seal and in some cases, complete sound blockage. Figure A Proper Insertion Figure B Correct Positioning Figure C Incorrect Positioning Get the Right Eartip Size For optimal performance, it’s important to use the eartip size that fits best. Eartips are available in small and large. Remove Possible Obstructions Lint or dirt may accumulate and obstruct the earpiece. To prevent this, use routine cleaning and care. Check the Seal Stethoscopes rely on an airtight seal in order to relay body sounds from the patient to your ears. Loose parts, loose tubing, or cracked tubing can prevent an airtight seal. Open the Bell With the Classic II, you need to open the bell or diaphragm by rotating the chestpiece. If the diaphragm is open, the bell will be closed, and vice versa. ( Look in the bell to see the opening in the chestpeice as you rotate it for proper orientation) Clean the stethoscope in-between every patient with rubbing alcohol solution or wipe. Do not immerse or sterilize your stethoscope. Replacement parts for your Littmann Classic II are available from Littmann retailers. L12
