The PAXStarter is a great development board for beginners to experts. It is a circuit complete with everything you need to run your PIC and project! It can easily form the core of your electronic endeavors. Just plug in power and your programmer, and you're ready to start adding software. This PIC and board can easily form a simple and low cost core for your projects. And it is designed, made, and shipped quickly from the United States! This package includes a new PAXStarter DIP40 Project Development Board and a Microchip PIC16F887-I/P Microcontroller. (The PIC16F877A is the same as the PIC16F887 with added enhancements. See this side by side comparison from Microchip's website.) The board includes a 20mhz crystal, ICSP header, barrel jack power input or optional 2 pin power input header, power output for your breadboard, and more. It has everything you need to run your PIC project and connect to your ICD / PICKit so you can start coding faster. The board itself can work with many of Microchip's 40 pin DIP PICs, and it has a 40 pin socket to allow you to replace the chip as needed. (I also sell this board with the PIC18F46K22 64Mhz microcontroller mounted on board.) Project Templates / Source Code Available! I have designed some sample code projects which can provide a template for your projects. Now you can get started even faster! Basic Version: PAXStarter PIC16F887 Base Project Interrupt Driven Version: PAXStarter PIC16F887 Interrupt Driven Base Project Both of these projects use and activate the on board buttons using the internal weak pull up resistors, and they activate LEDs in different ways on PORTD to give you some output examples. They also contain all the configs necessary to run the PIC16F887. The projects were built in MPLAB X, but you can extract the code to use elsewhere. These projects also contain extensive notes explaining the why behind each step! You can get support for our code projects or for your board at our website's support forum!   PIC16F887-I/P IC (Already Mounted) 20Mhz Crystal Oscillator In-Circuit Serial Programmer - ICSP Header (ICD Style) - For programming/debugging. Bypass Capacitors on Power Input, Regulator, and Output. NEW! Buttons on RB0 and RB4 for easy interrupt/program triggering. This revision also has notes and more readable lettering on the PCB itself! LED Power Indicator 2.1mm Barrel Jack Power Input Power Output Header (For Breadboard/Other Devices) Reset Button for PIC Markings for Pins Grouped by Port 40 Pin DIP IC Socket Compatible with many DIP40 Microchip PICs Grounded Mounting Holes   Power Specs: Apply +7v to +18v power input through power input header or 2.1mm barrel jack On Board Linear Power Regulator: Can handle up to 1A Current If you use a barrel jack, you can draw the input voltage from the power input header pins! The power regulator's heatsink is surrounded by a connected ground plane for added heat dissipation. Note: At peak power/voltage levels, the power regulator can still get hot. Be careful when handling! 2-Pin Power Output Header on Right Side Provides +5v and Ground Programming: The 6-Pin ICSP Header, including PGM pin, can connect to an ICD style header. Note: Do not apply power through the ICSP header. Set your ICD to self power. Otherwise power could go into the wrong side of the linear regulator. Misc: Board dimensions: 81mm x 50mm Mounting holes are 3mm in diameter and centered 4mm from each corner edge. All 4 mounting holes are connected to the ground plane. The IC socket requires a chip puller to safely remove the IC. If using a different PIC, double check the pin out, voltage, and crystal speed to make sure it is compatible. A pin out map and compatibility list is at the bottom of this listing. If you have any suggestions, please let us know! Your thoughts will be added to future revisions. Please use care when handling any electronic items. Take precautions against static discharge and electrocution!   We are offering a 30 day DOA/satisfaction warranty on the board.
