This is only the laminated core, made of Grain-Aligned magnetic steel, 12 mil thick lamination, inorganic insulation coating. It has a 6 mil Mylar base coating layer. You may want to add a layer of tape depending on your wire thickness chosen. This is not conventional transformer steel. It is grain-oriented, so the best magnetic properties are in the same direction as the magnertic flux created by the copper windings. Magnetic domains aligned in the tangential direction ( rolling direction ) . Grain orientation combines low magnetostriction, permeability, and other highly desirable magnetic characteristics when the flux is parallel to the rolling direction. In this direction, magnetostriction and core losses are lowest (magnetostriction is near zero) and permeability is highest.
