This is a one of a kind specimen collected in Kern, CA in the late 90s. I personally displayed it for about six years; going so far as to decline an offer from the LA natural history museum to display the specimen. It has a high volume of uranium oxide, iron, copper, radium, polonium, and oddly enough, iridium. Iridium isn't supposed to be in veins of top fuel grade pitchblende, so this is a true anomaly. The origin is a mystery. I found this is a small lead pig while cleaning out the lead lines area in my attic. I wish I remembered the story behind this, but I just don't. A mineralogist and geologist examined it and couldn't figure out what was happening either. The prevailing belief is that rainwater dripped over hundreds of missions of years (or, like 5000 if you're super religious?) and brought down trace amounts of iridium from higher in the plane. I thought somebody may have tried to process it to make it jewelry, (not a good idea), but both of the pros said that wasn't the case. This is the most beautiful piece of pitchblende you will ever see, period. I mean it, there is nothing else like this in the world. I spent five years trying to find something to explain it, bit it's better just not explained I suppose. On a 44-9 pancake: 490,000 CPM On a G1LE: 502,000 (with blockage of low energy beta to mock linearity of the 44-9 probe) On a LND 725/CDV 700, it would max it out three times over. 87,000 CPM. I am going to include a lead pig with this one: assume a 5 pounder with 1/2 inch shielding. The shipping is my responsibility and I will get it to you. IF YOU ARE AN INTERNATIONAL BUYER YOU MUST MUST MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO PURCHASE, THANKS! I can't compromise much on price. If this is still up in five years, let us all enjoy it for the five years it's up. I have to sell off the most beloved parts of my collection. For those of you who aren't repeat customers, feel free to say and get to know me. I love this field. I make so much less than the other sellers because this is hobby stuff. I actually like talking to you all! You will enjoy this soecimen, it can not be lit wrong, those pics were taken with an Ipad under 4400k light.
