PORTESCAP 7200 RPM PRECISION DC MOTOR ESCAP 23 L2R 6VDC Model: escap 23 L2R 21 213P 1 - Nominal voltage: 6 V DC - No load speed: 7,200 RPM - No load current: 40 mA - Full load current: 500 mA - Full load torque: .55 oz-in - Stall current: 1950 mA - Stall torque: 2.2 oz-in - Motor begins to rotate at .2 V DC - 9 segment precious metal alloy commutator - Ball bearings - Shaft dimensions: 10 mm Long x 3.0 mm Diameter - Motor dimensions: 34 mm Long x 23 mm Diameter - Comes with solder terminals for easy power connection - Can be operated in either direction, simply reverse polarity - Weight: 2.3 oz (65 g) - Made in Switzerland  This is Swiss made Portescap, (escap)  22 mm (Diameter) coreless motor with 9 poles and about 32mm long. Shaft  is 1.5  mm. This is Coreless can motor for  brass or plastic loco. It flywheels a few seconds and thats enough to coast you through dirty trackwork for several inches to prevent stalling the  steam or diesel locomotive through dirty or rough track. With a sleeve and  flywheel this motor will coast 20 seconds!! This listing does not include a flywheel. This listing is for the 12 volt motor with 2 mm shafts.  You cannot believe the high precision of these motors. High Power Density High Efficiency No Hysteresis Torque No Cogging Torque Very Low Starting internal motor friction No Radial Forces Between Rotor and Stator Smooth Quiet Operation   Fast Response Brush Coil High Peak Torque Sinusoidal Back EMF Waveform Enhanced Heat Dissipation These swiss precison gearmotor systems are for the advanced hobbyist who has the experience to understand the Engineering of locomotive scale speed and novice hobbyists may find the following techno babble over there heads. These motors run about  $100 from the US importer!!  The brushes are Gold and the commutator is made of silver. Your steamer should hit 5 to 6 piston strokes per second to get scale speed and times 60 seconds per minute is about 300 to 360 driver rpm at scale speed.   So multiply that times your gear ratio to find out what your motor drive shaft speed should be.   This also works out to about 1 mile per hour for each 1 inch of driver diameter: 45 inch drivers should go 45 miles per hour at scale speed--60 inch drivers go 60 mph. etc. At top speed or 5 to 6 piston strokes per second.    This is a mathematical coincidence of diameter times pi times rpm gives speed in inches divide by 12 and thats feet per minute.
