The Practical Mechanic's Journal, Volume I, April 1848 – March 1849, published in Glasgow, Scotland, by Practical Mechanic's Journal and Patent Office. 8 x 10 inches, 288 pages. This ORIGINAL bound periodical from 166 years ago is in very good condition. The front and back boards are edgeworn and slightly soiled. The spine is cracked at the front and rear flyleaves, and both front and back boards are completely detached. The first four pages are held in with scotch tape along the spine. The pages are clean and free of marks, but the paper is yellowed and somewhat brittle. There is some foxing. It is not very often that the very first volume of a periodical this old becomes available.
