My wife and I fire up our commercial La Marzocco Linea machine daily, fix two to four espresso drinks, and off goes the La Marzocco. That's it. Actually, better than perfect because of what I'm about to tell you next! More Details for You: Our beloved PressPoint came with a 58mm tamper, I believe, and although that worked for us okay, we stopped using that one immediately and began using a tamper that better fit the standard La Marzocco portafilter right after we purchased this jewel. (Before shipping, I'll look to see if we still have the original tamp that came with it; if so, I'll include it too. You can easily exchange the tampers if we have the original one, although I'm unsure why you'd want the original one.) A good tamp is not just consistent... Although consistency is the cornerstone of the PressPoint!... but a "good tamp" goes snugly into your portafiler basket without any excess area but not so snugly that it's difficult to tamp into and raise out of without bringing up coffee grounds. That's why, immediately after we received our PressPoint, we took one of our La Marzocco Linea tampers to a machine shop in Tulsa and hired them drill a threaded hole into it so we could use that, instead of the original PressPoint tamper that didn't do as well in our standard La Marzocco portafilters. (I think La Marzocco's Linea portafilters are about the most standard in the industry, but I am not familiar with other manufacturers.) Oh what a deal for you if you want consistent tamps... and if you know anything about espresso drinks, you want consistent tamps! You remove one difficult variable from your entire espresso process! Now, to adjust your flow rate, you only need to adjust the grind and not also mess with adjusting both the grind and the tamp! The Dreaded Coffee Bar Owner's Nightmare: New Baristas who don't understand the importance, and who don't have the skills yet, to tamp consistently and evenly! This heavy-duty PressPoint completely removes your nightmare from all new as well as veteran employees instantly! Plus, we find that not only do we get far more consistent tamps, the tamps are perfectly level to the top of the filter basket as well! And we play around with the tamp pressure from time to time but slightly unscrewing the tamp which lowers it closer to the portafilter basket. Although we prefer to keep the tamper fully screwed in, some coffee works better if we "let it out" a turn or so and use it there. This gem is beautiful, and solid, one of the most heavy-duty coffee items we've ever run across. It works perfectly of course, but remember where it's been used and you'l know why. But this heavy-duty PressPoint can obviously take far more heavy-duty usage in a coffee bar, so it'll be around for decades to come! Not only it is structurally perfect, and works just like new, but it's still beautiful showing only a faint bit of use on the portafilter rest bar and a micro-dot surface-color scrape near the bottom on the right side (seriously, this color-scrape is perhaps an eighth of an inch wide, it's nothing but we want to inform you of everything).
