Up for sale is a Prest-O-Lite® Halide and Methyl Bromide Leak Detector for detecting leaks of noncombustible Halide refrigerant gases (Freon 12, Ucon, Dichlorodifluoromethane). Manufactured by the Linde Air Products Company (Union Carbide). Includes Flame shield, Reaction plate, Burner, Mixer, Suction Hose Nozzle, Handle, Needle Valve, Stem, and Instructions. This type of device was used in the maintenance of pre-World War II U.S. Navy Fleet Type Submarine Online Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Systems below is an excerpt from Submarine Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Systems, Navpers 16163 dated 1945 December. Figure 11-1. Halide torch. A number of halide torches are available on the market, most of which use acetylene gas or alcohol as a fuel. The acetylene burning Prest-O-Lite torch manufactured by the Linde Air Products Company is supplied for most Navy installations.
