Free Shipping in the USA!This is a high voltage version of a smoke detector. This one is tested and indeed does still work. It takes 220VDC, and the voltage must be within 10% or the detector will fail to detect (too low) or constantly send an alarm signal (too high). The interesting part is it draws almost nothing (tens of nanao-amps) when not triggered, but when it is, it conducts enough juice to easily power a small relay. What is unusual is the sensitivity can be adjusted with the screw on the top to almost nothing to constantly on. Tunable smoke detector- Pretty neat, really good for avoiding false alarms. If only they made ones in the kitchen area like this. Oh yeah it has a warning about the 80uci of Am-241 inside it, which is an awful lot! About 100 of today's smoke detectors worth. After checking a 1uci Am-241 dollar store smoke detector source with a ludlum 44-9, it gives one a new appreciation for how much radioactivity that actually is inside THIS smoke detector! Whatever you do, don't try to take it apart, Am-241 is every bit as nasty to get in your body as plutonium! See my other listings for flash lamps, HV capacitors, and other goodies. I have lots of other nuclear related items, lasers and other unique stuff for sale this week.
