Here we have a very rare, possibly experimental, iron-wheeled walk behind Standard garden tractor with electric start that was installed at the factory. It is serial number 3204, which I`ve been told makes it a 1934 model, but the tractor is the open flywheel type with a friction driven blower for cooling, which Standard didn`t produce past the late 1920`s. I believe that someone at Standard wanted to see if it was feasible to have a garden tractor with electric start, so they experimented with this older model that was left over. It has most of the original paint still on it, and you can see by the way the battery box was made with rivets, factory-formed brackets, and original paint on it that it was not cobbled together by a blacksmith or farmer. You can also see that the bracket that is needed to support the starting crank was never installed on this when it was painted originally, it was never intended to be started with a crank when it left the factory. I had it running a few years ago, but it will need a new 6 volt battery now to start it. When I had it running, it didn`t smoke and has great compression, I don`t think it saw a lot of use. The ignition system uses the same battery as the starter with no charging system, so if it was stopped out in the back 40, if the battery is low, it can`t be started up again until the battery is charged up. This tractor definitely came from the factory with electric start, which makes this one of the rarest Standard garden tractors out there! It`s located in Wilbraham, MA 01095, I can store it until springtime if you need the time to pick it up as long as it`s paid for. Or I can strap it to a pallet and drop it off at the local Fastenal store as long as the buyer pays for and arranges the shipping.
