Very Nice, Hard to Find, Ashcroft Mfg. Co. @000psi Hydraulic Brass Gauge. This was manufactured in New York for the "GEO.E.Dow Pumping Engine Co."most likely in the early 1900's. The "Dow" company made "horizontal centrifugal pumps". This gauge could have been used in one of many different applications such as;  cargo and ballast pumps ; air pumps, artesian well pump, blowing engines, boiler feed pumps, brewery pumps, compound pumps, duplex pumps, deep well pumps, electric, elevator, fire, hydraulic, high duty pumping engines, mine pumps, pipe connections, power pumps,  suction condensers, sinking pumps, tank, vacuum pumps, water motors, water works, well pumps, wine pumps and wrecking pumps. With this high of a psi rating, my guess is that it was used in a Railroad, or Ship type of application. This is only my speculation, I do not know of it's original usage. It measures slightly less than 12" across the face, about 12 1/2" across the back plate, and about 2 3/4" thick. There is a 2 1/4" x 1/2od nipple protruding from the back. It is in very good condition considering its age. This is a nice piece of Americana and a good specimen of American ingenuity and Craftsmanship, a great item for any collector.
