Nice Rare Piston Ring Gauge For a Model T / A ....1924 Brass Engine Machine Shop Garage Tool click picture to enlarge Description If you are building up a collection of early automotive machine shop tools.... this beauty is a must have. The cast aluminum body measures 9-3/4" x 17-1/2" x 1-1/4" tall. On the large brass plate, it identifies this tool as a "Piston Ring Gauge", which was manufactured by "Universal Circular Gauge Co., San Francisco, Cal / Patent Pending / No. RS RV". The instruction to adjust the gauge are at the top of the circle. I checked the operation with the supplied ring and the gauge is right on. To do this, you place the piston ring in the recessed area inside the band and then rotate the large brass pointer counter clockwise. Also inscribed on the circular dial (in the smallest of letters in the left bottom corner), it reads: "Ring Dial / Copyright 1924 by Alfred L. Weber." In the right bottom corner it reads: "Etched by Irvine & Jachens San Francisco Calif". The gauge sits a little unsteady, because of 2 missing rubber bumpers on the short base legs. It will not be difficult to replace these rubber feet. This wonderful piece has been in my possession a long, long time and I haven't seen another one. Not only does it work, but it has great eye-appeal. It weighs in at approximately 5 pounds - 7 ounces (without packaging). PLEASE VIEW MORE PHOTOS BELOW THIS DESCRIPTION...... CONDITION: This gauge is in nice original condition. It does not appear that anything is missing, no broken .....well, except for the two rubber feet mentioned above.
