Before Zilog released the Z80 CTC to production, a few engineering samples were packaged and delivered to engineers inside the company in late 1976.  This specimen is amongst the very first CTC devices made.  Most CTC's are from 1977 or later.  The CTC was very successful in its role as a counting and timing subsystem for Z80 systems.  The job for engineers was simplified by integrating 35 square inches of TTL into a 28 pin DIP.  I have a few printed circuit boards with the TTL equivalent of the CTC if anyone is interested.
