Product Description: The Reed Instruments ST-Electrikit2 electrical test kit includes a digital multimeter, clamp-on current attachment, temperature input adapter, K-type thermocouple probe, and AC line splitter for installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial and residential electrical systems. The kit comes with instructions and batteries for all components and one test lead set for the multimeter. A carrying case is included for storing and transporting the kit when not in use. The Reed Instruments ST-9919 digital multimeter (also known as a multitester) measures voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, duty cycles, and temperature in electrical testing applications. The meter measures duty cycles to 99.90%, indicating the percent of time a circuit is on. An audible continuity sensor confirms a circuit conducts electricity, and a diode test detects proper functioning of a circuit’s diodes. The LCD shows readings in digits and on a bar graph and is backlit for readability in low light. The meter's internal memory stores maximum and minimum values for a session for future recall. The peak hold function records instantaneous peak values, such as when a motor is turned on. The relative mode stores a reading in memory to use as a zero point for subsequent readings so that multiple readings can be compared. The hold function keeps a reading on the LCD, even after the meter is disconnected. It is a true RMS (root mean square) meter and provides accurate readings when measuring linear loads where the current or voltage has an undistorted waveform, or nonlinear loads where the current or voltage has a distorted waveform. When turned on, the meter is in auto-ranging mode and automatically selects the correct operating range for the property being measured. It can be switched to manual-ranging mode, which allows the operator to choose the appropriate operating range. The LCD has a 40,000-count resolution, meaning it can display up to 39,999 units (4-3/4 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed. The meter operates on one 9V battery (installed). The Reed Instruments CP-09 clamp-on current attachment connects to a compatible multimeter to extend the meter's current-measurement capabilities. It has two jaws that can close around an electrical conductor to measure current without touching or interrupting the circuit. A finger guard on the body of the meter helps protect fingers from shock. The Reed Instruments AD-1 temperature adapter allows a temperature probe with a mini connector to be connected to a compatible multimeter with 3/4" banana jacks. The Reed Instruments TP-01 K-type thermocouple wire probe measures surface temperature. The Reed Instruments AC-006 AC line splitter connects to a compatible multimeter to take AC current measurements on a 2- or 3-wire power cord up to 15 amp without requiring the plug to be removed or the wire to be split. It also indicates if there is live voltage present in the wire. Specifications: Multimeter maximum alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) voltage input 1,000 volts (V) Multimeter maximum resistance detected 40 megaohms Multimeter maximum AC or DC current input 10 amp Multimeter maximum frequency detected 400 megahertz (MHz) Multimeter maximum capacitance detected 40 millifarads (mF) Multimeter temperature measurement range -50 to 1,000 degrees Celsius/-58 to 1832 degrees Fahrenheit Multimeter standards met European Conformity (CE); International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010-1 and 61326; Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 61010-1, 2nd Ed. (2004), UL61010B-2-031; Canadian Standards Association (CAN/CSA) C22.2 No. 61010-1 2nd Ed. (2004) Multimeter safety category rating Category III 1,000V, Category IV 600V Clamp meter maximum AC current input 200 amp Clamp meter maximum voltage output 1 millivolt (mV) per amp Line splitter maximum AC current input 15 amp Line splitter safety category rating Category II 600V Multitesters (also called multimeters) are electrical test meters that measure multiple properties of an electrical circuit, such as current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop models, multitesters diagnose electrical problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Multitesters display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltages. Safety ratings are based on the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating. What's in the Box?
