REEL SPLINT USGI Tactical System Hybrid Adult Splint Traction Extrication Model 8801 "Reel Splint™" Military Tactical System Hybrid Adult Splint with Heavy Duty Carrying Bag and Training Manual. We acquired these units from the U.S. Military and they were part of an emergency deployment set. We do not think that they were ever used but they have some light wear from being in storage. A few scratches on some of the painted surfaces and turn knobs. There are also some small tears in the carrying bag and it could use a good laundering. To my knowledge this version of the 8801 Reel Splint is the most current version. Unlike most of the others you see this unit has highly visible yellow buckles and a heavy duty black cordura nylon zippered carrying bag. The nice thing about the new bag is that there is an inside pouch that holds the Elevation Stand and Training Manual separate from the splint itself. Also the bottom is padded. Both these added features cuts down on damage to the splint. From the manufacturers website: "This version of the Reel Splint ImmobilizerTM has a unique twist. Two snap ring twist "Quick Disconnect" sleeves are positioned at the bottom or distal end of the splint. These sleeves allow the Reel's exclusive traction ratchet to be inserted into the distal portion of the splint. With the immobilizer component in the straight and neutral position, the ratchet can then be connected; thus creating the world's most highly effective long bone traction splint. In this traction configuration there are two vitally important developments incorporated into the splint's design. ANATOMICAL PIVOTING ISCHIAL PAD: This assures proper alignment at and with the patient's "ischial pathway angle." Pivoting left or right, the ischial pad can be situated with proper and complete consideration of delicate proximal injury sites. The majority of femur fractures occur in this upper third portion of the thigh making this a major concern; especially in older 60's style traction splints still widely used today. Take a look in your splint compartment, and you might just find one of these traction relics still "hanging" around. POSITIVE MIDLINE "POF" (What is it and why is it important?): POF allows the knee to be slightly flexed and supported at an angle that emulates the patient's natural anatomical "position of function" (or POF). This is highly beneficial in achieving proper natural limb alignment during traction while positively effecting nuero vascular integrity. This has become SOP (standard operating procedure) for many high profile EMS providers. LOGISTICS & DEPLOYMENT BENEFITS MAKE US A MILITARY FAVORITE: The combination of the Reel splint and traction ratchet are favorites of military customers worldwide. Highly deployable, logistics friendly and totally self-contained... bottom line: carry this UNIVERSAL version of the Reel Splint and you're done!"
